Mary Elena Solorio is a lifelong San Fernando resident, educator, mother, and proud public servant committed to putting families first. She currently serves as a Councilmember for the City of San Fernando; and she is running for re-election to continue building a safe, thriving community where children can grow up, build memories, and have real opportunities to succeed right here at home.

Mary is a first-generation Mexican American raised in the community by hardworking parents who taught her that strong families build strong communities. A graduate of local public schools–including the Dolores Huerta HeadStart program, San Fernando Elementary, and San Fernando Middle school– Mary’s commitment to service began early. At the age of 18, she began working for the City of San Fernando in the Recreation and Community Services Department, and since then has worked to keep her community strong.

Councilmember Solorio holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from California State Northridge, a Master’s degree in Teaching, and is completing her Doctorate in Applied Clinical Psychology.  She has dedicated her career to supporting children and families, and expanding access to mental and behavioral health services. Her professional experience has strengthened her commitment to equity, inclusion, and creating opportunities for all individuals to succeed.

In addition to her role on the City Council, Mary is actively engaged in regional leadership. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Valley Economic Alliance, is the President-Elect of the Independent Cities Association, and is a member of the SCAG Community. Through these roles, she collaborates with leaders across Southern California to advance economic development, strengthen regional partnerships, and advocate for policies that benefit working families.

On the City Council, Mary established a financial assistance program supporting families impacted by ICE actions, ensuring residents have access to critical resources and stability during uncertain times. She has a proven record advocating for youth, public safety, and community well-being. In recognition of her service, Mary received the Chief’s Award from the San Fernando Police Department in 2023 for her unwavering support of the community following her first year on the City Council. In 2026 she was honored as the California Legislator’s Woman of the Year.

As a mother raising her two young daughters in San Fernando, Mary’s leadership is grounded in her personal commitment to building a safe, vibrant, and opportunity-rich community. She remains focused on improving infrastructure, supporting local businesses, maintaining fiscal responsibility, and ensuring that San Fernando continues to be a place where families can thrive for generations to come.
